CROWN DEVON FIELDINGS JUGS

Regular price £85.00
These two jugs are being sold as a pair although they are of slightly different sizes.
The larger jug:   Height 20cm       Diameter base 13       Top: 10
The smaller jug: Height 17 1/2cm Diameter base 11 1/2 Top:   9 1/2 Approx.

They are Crown Devon Fieldings earthenware jugs, decorated with a matt black background and handpainted with brightly coloured flowers and birds. The eight bands of gold that circle the base and top in tiers of four, with the additional, double gold lines that enhance the handle which is designed to give the finger-grip space a rectangle shape is an attractive style. The gold lines on both sides of the handle enclose a line of a series of finely raised dots set in the matt black finish, where the light texture can be felt with fingertips. Finished on both sides with a small gold circle with a tiny single dot, placed carefully in the centre, where the handle top joins the jug, indicates the attention to detail resulting in a quality and striking example of Art Deco. This particular pattern was registered: 708762 in 1924 and named PEEL, becoming popular during the 1920s/30s.
A matching shallow bowl can be veiwed on the A-Z OF STOKE-ON-TRENT POTTERS.
